The Vintage Gala, an event pioneered by dynamic youth in their 20s, brings together some of the most creative and innovative online vendors in fashion, arts, and crafts. These vendors—largely thrift stores, artisans, and creators of hand-crafted pieces like crochet bandana bags—are given a unique platform to connect with their customers face-to-face. What sets the Vintage Gala apart is its mission to promote sustainability and environmental consciousness while supporting small businesses.
Early this year, the Gala took place on May 25th 2024, and a second one is due to take place on Saturday, September 7th.

Thrift stores participating in this event have a special connection to the iconic Kantamanto market, where much of the city’s secondhand clothing comes from. The market is a haven for vintage enthusiasts and eco-conscious shoppers alike. At the Gala, the vendors transform thrifted garments and pieces that may have been labeled as rejects into stylish, wearable fashion, catering particularly to the youth. This effort is more than just a trend; it’s a stand against the massive environmental issue of clothing waste, which often ends up being dumped near the sea, as seen in places like Jamestown.
The Vintage Gala is not only a space for commerce but also a hub for promoting eco-friendly practices. By encouraging people to buy secondhand and reworked clothing, the event helps divert waste from landfills and coastal areas, turning it into something fashionable and fresh.

This initiative has been running for a few years and continues to grow in popularity.
The event is opened to serve as chance to support young entrepreneurs and embrace the sustainable fashion movement.
People passionate about sustainability and love unique fashion, will have to visit the event centre at Legon city mall in Accra.
