Toyota Tsusho Manufacturing Ghana Co. Ltd. has launched a consolidated Toyota operation in Ghana, a move the company says will deepen after-sales service, improve parts availability and introduce the country’s first hybrid electric Toyota model as it expands its footprint in West Africa.
The integrated structure brings manufacturing and nationwide distribution under one entity after Toyota Tsusho Manufacturing Ghana, a CFAO subsidiary established in 2020 with a production base in the Tema Free Zone, reached an agreement to consolidate with Toyota Ghana Ltd., according to officials at a launch event in Accra.

The transaction allowed Toyota Tsusho Manufacturing Ghana to acquire the distributor’s assets, making it the sole entity responsible for Toyota vehicle manufacturing and distribution across Ghana.
The combined operation now includes nine branches and about 640 employees, the company said. Toyota plans to introduce additional models in 2026, including its first hybrid electric system for the Ghanaian market, in a step toward electrified mobility.
The Ghana Investment Promotion Centre (GIPC) described the move as an endorsement of the country’s investment climate, with Chief Executive Officer Simon Madjie saying Toyota’s expansion reflects the impact of policies aimed at attracting long-term industrial investment.
Toyota Tsusho’s consolidation comes as Ghana seeks to expand manufacturing and assembly in priority sectors, including automotive, under its industrialization agenda and free zone incentives.

While Ghana’s vehicle market remains dominated by used imports, automakers and distributors have increasingly positioned after-sales service, genuine parts supply and financing support as key differentiators, as consumers face higher maintenance costs and longer vehicle lifecycles.
Toyota Tsusho said the integrated operation will strengthen service support through improved parts availability, new digital services and broader after-sales coverage, as it targets growth in a market where the Toyota brand already has a strong presence.
The launch drew senior government and diplomatic representation, including Chief of Staff Julius Debrah, Japan’s Ambassador to Ghana Hiroshi Yoshimoto, France’s Ambassador Diarra Dimé Labille, Toyota Tsusho’s Africa Division Chief Operating Officer Shinichiro Otsuka, Ghana Investment Promotion Centre Chief Executive Officer Simon Madjie, and Toyota Tsusho Manufacturing Ghana Managing Director Takeshi Watanabe.
