Dr. Archibald Yao Letsa, Volta Regional Minister, emphasized that tourism has the power to transform Ghana’s economy by fostering cultural preservation, community development, and economic growth. In a speech delivered on his behalf by Mrs. Lydia Nyarko-Ampomah, Volta Regional Director of the Centre for National Culture, at the 2024 Volta Regional Tourism Awards, Dr. Letsa highlighted the region’s rich attractions, including the beaches of Keta, Afadjato, Likpe caves, and Wli Waterfalls, which have the potential to boost prosperity for both local communities and the nation.

He emphasized that realizing the region’s tourism potential requires collective efforts from individuals, institutions, and the government, with tourism being a key pillar in Ghana’s economic development. Dr. Letsa also stressed that the government remains committed to improving infrastructure, policies, and promoting investment in tourism. However, collaboration with traditional leaders, private sector players, and local communities is essential to the sector’s success.

Dr. Letsa called for innovation to meet the demands of modern travelers by leveraging technology, adopting sustainable practices, and developing new tourism products that cater to global trends.

Mr. Richard Agyenim Boateng, Deputy Director of Administration at the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA), speaking on behalf of CEO Mr. Akwasi Agyeman, noted the growth of the Regional Tourism Awards over the years, which recognize excellence in the industry. The awards not only celebrate dedication but also highlight the multistakeholder nature of tourism development in Ghana.

Mr. Johnny Arthur-Quarm, Volta Regional Manager of GTA, acknowledged the region’s progress in promoting sustainable tourism and enhancing visitor experiences, which are the results of collaborative efforts.
