Telecel Ghana has secured an overwhelming 99.10% of the fixed voice (fixed line) market share, according to the National Communications Authority’s (NCA) latest report. This achievement cements Telecel Ghana’s position as the dominant force in this segment of the telecommunications industry.
Out of the total 306,214 fixed voice subscriptions, Telecel Ghana leads with 303,450 active users. Trailing far behind, Airtel Ghana Limited (AirtelTigo) holds 934 subscriptions, representing a mere 0.31% of the market, while Scancom PLC (MTN Ghana) accounts for 1,830 subscriptions, making up 0.60%.
These figures underscore the lack of significant competition in the fixed voice market, where Telecel operates nearly unchallenged.

While the fixed voice market has experienced a marginal growth of 0.02% month-over-month, its overall evolution remains slow as mobile and internet-based communication options continue to dominate Ghana’s telecommunications landscape.
However, Telecel Ghana’s ability to maintain its stronghold highlights its strategic positioning in a shrinking but still relevant market segment.
Telecel’s dominance comes on the heels of the group’s acquisition of Vodafone Ghana’s 70% majority shares in Ghana Telecommunications Company Limited (GTCL). This move followed regulatory approvals, including consent from the Government of Ghana as a minority shareholder.
Telecel’s acquisition signals its commitment to expanding its footprint in Ghana and integrating its telecom services with fintech, e-commerce, and tech startups.
Founded in 1986, Telecel has positioned itself as a leader in Africa-focused telecommunications. Its broader strategy includes supporting innovation and providing connectivity solutions to underserved areas across the continent.
Ghana’s telecommunications sector continues to evolve, with Telecel Ghana’s dominance in fixed voice services reflecting its strong operational capabilities and potential to influence other areas of the telecom market.
