Ghanaian students can now access Google’s GeminiApp and accompanying AI certification training free for 12 months, an offer Google says is intended to build foundational AI skills and prepare learners for a workforce increasingly shaped by artificial intelligence.
The package, which includes 2TB of cloud storage, is available until December 9, 2025, and requires students to verify their enrollment status before activation.
The offer forms part of a broader rollout across several African countries, including Nigeria, Kenya, Rwanda, South Africa, and Zimbabwe. A similar subscription providing access to Gemini 2.5 Pro normally costs $19.99 per month under the Google AI Pro plan.

The Ministry of Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations has welcomed the initiative, describing it as a boost to efforts to equip young people with advanced digital tools and skills for emerging technology careers. In a Facebook post, sector minister Samuel Nartey George said the package provides meaningful financial relief for students and families by removing the cost barrier associated with premium AI services and specialised training.
“We would continue to expand this partnership beyond the AI Research Lab and One Million Coders Programme,” he wrote, referring to ongoing collaborations aimed at strengthening Ghana’s digital workforce and supporting long-term technology development.
Partnerships with global technology companies remain central to national plans to enhance digital literacy, expand innovation capacity, and improve access to advanced computing resources. Students are encouraged to take advantage of the free access period and help broaden awareness of the programme.
