Trade Minister Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare notes that services trade is becoming a central pillar of economic transformation, as she joined fellow ministers in a high-level panel ahead of the World Trade Organization’s Ministerial Conference.
Speaking on the margins of preparatory meetings for the World Trade Organization Ministerial Conference MC14, Ofosu-Adjare pointed to the growing role of sectors such as fintech and professional services in driving diversification, resilience and job creation, particularly for young people.
She said digitally enabled industries are opening new pathways for developing economies to expand exports and reduce reliance on traditional commodity sectors.
The discussion, held on the eve of the ministerial gathering, focused on how the global trading system can better support development outcomes amid shifting economic conditions and technological change.
Ofosu-Adjare said services trade is increasingly underpinning inclusive and sustainable growth, with digital innovation offering opportunities for countries to integrate more effectively into global markets.
Ghana is seeking to leverage these trends through regional frameworks such as the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCTA), which aims to deepen intra-African trade and expand services exports across the continent.
The panel brought together trade ministers to exchange views on strengthening the multilateral trading system, with participants emphasizing the need for reforms that reflect the evolving structure of global commerce.
