Savings and Loans companies accounted for about 80.7% of all cash-collateral registrations in Ghana in the second quarter of 2026, putting the lender category far ahead of other financial institutions.
Data from the Bank of Ghana’s Collateral Registry show that Savings and Loans companies recorded 65,091 cash-collateral registrations during the quarter, out of 80,673 registrations across all lender types.
Rural banks followed with 12,599 cash-collateral registrations, while banks recorded 1,389 and microfinance companies recorded 1,194.
Together, the four lender categories accounted for 80,273 cash-collateral registrations, or about 99.5% of the total recorded during the quarter.
The strong contribution from Savings and Loans companies also reflected their wider activity in the Collateral Registry. They recorded 89,377 collateral assets across all categories, compared with 17,457 for rural banks and 4,460 for banks.
Cash was by far the most commonly registered form of collateral during the quarter. The 80,673 cash-collateral registrations represented 68.7% of the 117,428 collateral assets registered.
Other commonly registered collateral included inventory or stock of goods, with 10,015 registrations, and company or business assets, with 9,247.
The figures come as total collateral registrations declined by 25.8% year-on-year, from 158,298 in the second quarter of 2025 to 117,428 in Q2 2026.
