The Minister of Communications, Digital Technology and Innovations, Mr. Samuel Nartey George, has announced plans to develop dedicated legislation and a sector roadmap for agri-tech in Ghana as part of government efforts to digitally transform agriculture and enhance food security.
Speaking during a familiarisation tour of tech companies across the Greater Accra and Eastern Regions, the Minister highlighted the importance of integrating digital tools into farming operations.
His visit included a stop at GrowForMe, a web-based crowdfunding platform supporting farmers through sponsorships, where he praised the company’s innovation in scaling smallholder agriculture.
“The ministry has a new direction. We are going to provide leadership and policy direction in the digital technology space, including the agri-tech sector,” Mr. George said.
He revealed plans to work with the Ministries of Agriculture and Trade to build an enabling environment for tech-driven agriculture.
In a move to demonstrate his support, the Minister made a personal investment of GH¢15,000 via the GrowForMe platform towards a three-acre soybean farm in the Northern Region.
“This investment will support farmers, likely women, to buy fertilizer and other inputs. I look forward to returns after the harvest,” he noted.
The Minister emphasized President Mahama’s broader vision to democratize access to technology, mechanisation, and financing for farmers.
He said these initiatives would empower rural communities and boost productivity through targeted digital interventions.
