Sahara Natural Resources has announced Mohammed Munkailah, known as “Munks,” stepping into the role of Chairman. Munks, who brings a wealth of experience and industry expertise, is set to lead Sahara through its next phase of growth and innovation.
Following Munks’ transition from CEO to Chairman, Beau Nicholls has been appointed as Interim CEO while the company searches for a permanent leader. Sahara has encouraged stakeholders to stay updated as they finalize the CEO selection process.
The company also expressed its appreciation for Graeme Slattery, the outgoing Chairman, who has been instrumental in strengthening Sahara’s presence across Africa and internationally.
Graeme will continue to work with Sahara as a Non-Executive Director, focusing on corporate governance and compliance, key values that underpin Sahara’s mission.
Mohammed Munkailah is a seasoned geologist and business leader with over 27 years in the mining industry. As co-founder of Sahara Natural Resources, established in 2010, Munkailah has been instrumental in expanding the company into a premier mining services provider across Africa. Based in Accra, Ghana, Sahara Natural Resources employs around 79 professionals and delivers a range of services, including exploration, drilling, and consulting, to clients across the continent and internationally. Munkailah also serves as the chairman of Navitrans MES Ghana Limited Services.
Munkailah’s journey started at the University of Ghana, where he studied geology. His career has since taken him around the world, from Africa and Australia to Eastern Europe and the Americas, giving him a broad perspective on the mining industry. He’s also a member of the Australian Institute of Geoscientists, which reflects his commitment to high professional standards.
Before founding Sahara, Munkailah held key roles in the industry. He worked as an Exploration Manager at West African Resources and later as Country Manager at DMC Mining, where he managed projects and built relationships that advanced exploration efforts.
Under his leadership, Sahara has earned a strong reputation for delivering sustainable and efficient mining solutions tailored to the unique needs of African projects. Munkailah’s vision has always focused on responsible mining practices, operational excellence, and a client-centered approach.
