The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ghana has confirmed that two Ghanaian nationals were injured following a drone incident near Dubai International Airport earlier today. According to the Ministry, “The Government of Ghana strongly condemns any act that endangers civilian lives and critical infrastructure. Such incidents pose serious risks to public safety and underscore the importance of ensuring the protection of civilians and vital international transport hubs.”
The injured Ghanaians are currently receiving treatment in hospital, and officials from Ghana’s Embassy in Abu Dhabi and Consulate in Dubai have visited them. The Ministry assured that their injuries are not critical and full recovery is expected soon. “We therefore urge calm as we continue to extend consular assistance and collaborate closely with host authorities,” the Ministry said.
While the immediate concern is the wellbeing of the victims, the incident raises broader questions about the safety of Ghanaians traveling to the Gulf region, particularly for business and tourism. Dubai is a major hub for international business and leisure travel, and any disruption to airport operations could affect flight schedules, business meetings, and trade engagements.
The incident may lead to heightened caution when planning trips, with companies likely to review travel risk assessments and insurance policies for employees. The tourism sector could also feel the impact if travelers reconsider visiting the region, potentially affecting bookings, conference attendance, and corporate events.
The Government of Ghana emphasized its commitment to citizen welfare, stating that it is “actively supporting ongoing consultations within the UN to pass a resolution seeking a cessation of hostilities.”
Ghanaians in the Gulf are urged to exercise vigilance and adhere to guidance from local authorities and Ghanaian diplomatic missions as the situation unfolds.
