Proofpoint has unveiled what it calls the industry’s first agentic AI platform for Human Communications Intelligence (HCI), aimed at helping companies detect and prevent compliance and conduct risks across digital communications channels.
The cybersecurity firm said the product, built into its Digital Communications Governance (DCG) portfolio, marks a shift from post-incident monitoring to real-time, AI-powered risk detection. It is designed for enterprises in highly regulated and litigious industries such as finance, law, and healthcare.
A survey of 1,600 chief information security officers found that more than a third ranked collaboration tools like Slack, Teams, and Zoom as their top concern for organizational risk, ahead of generative AI chatbots, cloud storage, and Microsoft 365. Proofpoint argues that traditional connectors and archives used by compliance teams are ill-equipped for that environment because they capture communications but lack intelligence to analyze behavior.
The company’s new HCI system, powered by its recently acquired Nuclei technology, goes beyond keyword spotting by reasoning through intent and context across more than 80 communication channels in real time. Intelligent agents autonomously flag potential insider threats, financial misconduct, AI misuse, or regulatory violations and provide explanations for each decision.
“Legacy connectors are merely proxies that pass content downstream, offering little intelligence,” said Harry Labana, senior vice president and general manager of Proofpoint’s DCG business. “Proofpoint has reimagined capture by moving beyond simply collecting messages to interpreting and reasoning in real time. This transforms the world’s largest source of behavioral data, human conversations, into actionable intelligence that empowers compliance, legal, and security teams to prevent risk before it escalates.”
The platform offers three main features:
- Real-time communications intelligence: Proofpoint Capture ingests and interprets content from email, messaging, collaboration apps, chatbots, social media, and files, generating transparent risk alerts.
- Explainable AI-powered supervision: A review system that analyzes tone, intent, emojis, and code snippets across languages, aiming to cut false positives and reduce manual workload by up to 90%.
- Integrated risk prevention: Signals from HCI connect directly with Proofpoint’s Insider Threat Management system, linking what employees say with their digital actions to surface motive and intent behind risky behavior.
Proofpoint said the goal is to give enterprises a defensible compliance framework that reduces exposure to regulatory penalties, litigation, and insider threats.
