Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson has highlighted procurement as a strategic pillar for Ghana’s economic resilience and sustainable growth, ahead of the 2025 National Procurement and Supply Conference (NPSC).
“Procurement is central to financial decision-making in both the public and private sectors. I am pleased with the opportunity to be involved and to engage through conferences like this. I believe we will have relevant discussions on how to advance the strategic role of procurement and supply chains in delivering Ghana’s economic goals,” Dr. Forson told organisers in Accra on August 27.
The conference, themed “Reimagining Procurement and Supply for Sustainable Development and Economic Resilience,” is scheduled for September 16–17 at the Accra International Conference Centre (AICC).
Organisers, led by Dr. Simon Annan, President of the Ghana Institute of Procurement and Supply (GIPS), said the NPSC is designed to transform procurement practices, align them with international standards, and foster stronger regional collaborations.
“This is going to be a major gathering of significant players in the Ghanaian economy drawn from policy, practice, and academia. The presence of our counterparts from Kenya is testament to our international collaborations to ensure global best practices are adopted,” Dr. Annan stated.
Confirmed speakers include Augustus Goosie Tanoh, Presidential Advisor on the 24-Hour Economy; Professor Douglas Boateng, Distinguished Fellow of GIPS; John Karani, Chairman of the Kenya Institute of Supplies Management; and Basel Ahiable, Board Chair of the Public Procurement Authority (PPA). Nana Oye Bampoe-Addo, Deputy Chief of Staff, and Frank Mante, CEO of the PPA, are also expected to participate.
With procurement accounting for a significant share of public expenditure, the conference is expected to generate key recommendations to enhance transparency, efficiency, and sustainability in Ghana’s procurement ecosystem, while positioning supply chains as enablers of long-term resilience.
