The President of the Republic of Ghana has nominated Dr. Eric Effah-Donyina and Dr. Samuel Kwaku Owusu-Manu for the positions of Deputy Managing Director (Technical) and Deputy Managing Director (Commercial) of the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC), respectively. This increases the number of deputy chief executives at GNPC to three.
This nomination was detailed in a letter dated July 3, 2024, from the Secretary to the President, addressed to the Minister for Energy, and copied to the GNPC Board Chairman and other relevant stakeholders. The letter requests the GNPC Governing Board to take the necessary steps to facilitate the issuance of formal appointment letters to Dr. Effah-Donyina and Dr. Owusu-Manu by the President, in accordance with Section 10 (2) of the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation Act, 1983 (P.N.D.C.L. 64).
The GNPC Governing Board has been directed to review the nominees’ curriculum vitae and take the necessary steps to enable the President to issue the formal appointment letters.
These appointments come just five months before the end of the President’s term, increasing the top management size of the national petroleum company. This move is likely to attract public outcry.
