The Inspector General of Police, Christian Tetteh Yohuno, has commended Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Iddie Adams, for efforts aimed at reforming and strengthening the country’s sports environment, highlighting the need for closer cooperation between security agencies and sports authorities.
Yohuno made the remarks during a visit to the minister’s office, where both officials discussed measures to deepen collaboration between the Ghana Police Service and sporting bodies to improve safety and security at sporting events across the country. The discussions focused on strengthening security arrangements at league venues and other sporting activities nationwide, amid broader efforts to ensure a safe and orderly environment for athletes, officials and spectators.

Adams praised the professionalism of the Police Service’s sports units, particularly their role in maintaining security at football league venues. He also highlighted the achievements of the Police Ladies Football Club, noting that the team continues to raise Ghana’s profile in continental competitions and demonstrates the role of sport in promoting discipline, unity and national pride.
Beyond event security, the meeting also explored opportunities to improve sports infrastructure and recreational facilities. Both officials acknowledged that sports can play a key role in youth development, public health and national cohesion.
Adams expressed appreciation to the police chief for the visit and emphasized the importance of sustained cooperation between the ministry and the Police Service to strengthen sports and recreation in Ghana. The engagement marks a step toward closer institutional coordination aimed at building a safer and more structured sporting environment while leveraging sports as a tool for social development and national progress.
