On April 18, 2025, Ghanaian businessman and avid golfer Prince Kofi Amoabeng stunned fellow players and fans alike when he landed a hole-in-one on the 12th hole at the historic Achimota Golf Club in Accra. This marks the second time Amoabeng has accomplished the rare golfing feat, an achievement that seasoned players dream of for decades, often without success.
He expressed his excitement online, sharing, “Most golfers never get a hole in one in their lifetime. Privileged to have experienced it for the second time.”

According to Amuzu Patrick of the Achimota Golf Club, a hole-in-one occurs when a golfer hits the ball from the tee (the starting point) directly into the hole with a single stroke. It’s typically made on a par-3 hole, where players are expected to take three strokes to finish. That’s what makes it so exceptional: completing the hole in just one precise shot.
Statistically, the odds of an amateur golfer making a hole-in-one are approximately 1 in 12,500, a striking reminder of just how rare Amoabeng’s accomplishment is.

Amoabeng’s ace came on Hole 12, one of only four holes at Achimota that are considered “hole-in-one achievable” due to their par-3 structure and favorable layout. The others are Holes 9, 16, and 18. “These are the holes where you can realistically drive straight from tee to cup,” explained Amuzu.

Because of its rarity and difficulty, a hole-in-one is often celebrated with special recognition. At Achimota Golf Club, this may include a commemorative certificate or plaque, monetary awards or sponsored prizes, and a place of honor on the club’s board of fame. It’s not just a personal victory, it becomes part of the club’s lore.
History of Achimota Golf Club
The Achimota Golf Club has deep roots in Ghanaian sports history. It was founded in 1934 on the grounds of Achimota School, beginning as a modest 7-hole course developed by the school’s staff. Over time, it expanded to 9 holes and finally to a full 18-hole layout. The club hosted Ghana’s first-ever Open Golf Championship in 1940 and has since maintained its reputation as one of the country’s premier golfing destinations.

Amoabeng’s latest hole-in-one adds another bright chapter to the Achimota story, one that continues to inspire golfers, new and seasoned, across Ghana and beyond.
