Communities surrounding the Edikan Gold Mine in Ghana’s Central Region are seeing tangible benefits from Perseus Mining’s sustained investment in livelihoods, education, and local development.
In the 2025 financial year, the company directed GH₵8.7 million to community initiatives, supporting projects that improve living standards and create opportunities for residents. Scholarships remain a cornerstone of its social investment, with 176 students from host communities receiving awards in FY2025 alone, bringing the total to 694 since 2017, helping families access education and build a brighter future.
The Edikan Livelihoods Restoration Programme is empowering local farmers by providing 11 smallholder pig farmers with training, infrastructure, feed, and veterinary support, enabling them to earn sustainable incomes. Infrastructure projects such as a modern community centre at Nkonya and a 3 by 4 unit accommodation facility for teachers and nurses at Abenabena are improving access to social services and enhancing community welfare.
Perseus’s environmental initiatives also benefit communities directly. The company manages over 29,000 seedlings at Edikan, integrates mango and oil palm into restored land, and donates waste rock for local road construction. Additionally, 70 hectares of land from its Ayanfuri Mining Lease were returned to support small-scale cooperative mining under government schemes, with GH₵16.6 million allocated for rehabilitation, creating opportunities for small-scale miners.

Edikan Mine’s operations also provide over 1,100 direct and indirect jobs for local residents, while GH₵2.4 billion spent with Ghanaian suppliers strengthens local businesses and economic networks, ensuring mining contributes to inclusive growth beyond the mine site.
