Abdul-Rashid Hassan Pelpuo, Minister-Designate for Labour, Jobs, and Employment, has reiterated the National Democratic Congress (NDC)’s commitment to implementing a 24-hour economy, positioning it as a transformative solution to Ghana’s persistent youth unemployment crisis.
Speaking during his parliamentary vetting, Pelpuo asserted that the policy would not only create more job opportunities but also enhance worker compensation and drive national productivity.
He outlined a structured three-shift system across industries, allowing businesses to operate around the clock while maximizing workforce potential.
“The 24-hour economy is a visionary policy designed to engage Ghana’s workforce effectively, ensuring they receive fair wages for their efforts,” Mr. Pelpuo stated.
The initiative, championed by President John Dramani Mahama and the NDC, aims to extend economic activities beyond traditional working hours. It seeks to optimize labor efficiency, expand employment opportunities, and improve wage structures, particularly benefiting the youth.
“The whole commitment is to increase production by our working class and also earn what they deserve,” Mr. Pelpuo added.
