The Governor of the Bank of Ghana (BoG), Johnson Pandit Asiama, has pledged to help resolve payment challenges faced by Ghanaian digital content creators, following concerns over access to earnings from global platforms.
Asiama met with a group of Ghanaian creators on X at Bank Square, following a statement issued by the bank on April 20 addressing the issue of digital platform payouts. The engagement is a reflection of growing attention from policymakers as the Ghana’s digital economy expands.
The Governor sought to position content creation within Ghana’s broader export framework, highlighting its economic value.

“just like the export of cocoa.” “Therefore, if you have any issues with your payouts, we are ready to help,” Asiama said. “We are making ourselves accessible so that we resolve all the issues that you have.”
Under Ghana’s foreign exchange regulations, proceeds from services exports can be received through Foreign Exchange Accounts held with local banks or through cedi accounts, provided transactions comply with regulatory requirements.
Asiama also urged creators to form a formal association to streamline engagement with regulators and improve the resolution of industry challenges. “We are interested in what you are doing and will do everything to facilitate your work,” he said.
The push comes as more Ghanaians turn to global digital platforms for income, raising regulatory and financial system questions around payments, currency conversion and compliance. The Bank of Ghana’s intervention suggests a shift toward integrating the sector more formally into the country’s financial and export ecosystem.
