President John Dramani Mahama has announced significant progress in job creation and poverty reduction, stating that more than one million Ghanaians secured employment between the first and third quarters of 2025.
In a national address on Friday, February 27, the President referenced data from the Ghana Statistical Service, which also showed that approximately 950,000 people exited multidimensional poverty during the same period.
According to the figures, the gains reflect improvements across various sectors of the economy, contributing to both employment growth and better living standards for thousands of households.
President Mahama described the development as a sign that Ghana’s economy is regaining strength and building resilience despite global economic pressures.
“This improvement indicates that our economy is gaining strength and resilience on the global stage. We are moving decisively from planning to action on our flagship 24-hour economy,” he stated.
Beyond employment and poverty indicators, the President also highlighted improvements in Ghana’s external sector performance.
He disclosed that by December 2025, the country’s current account recorded a surplus of $9.1 billion, representing 8.1 per cent of Gross Domestic Product (GDP), compared with 1.8 percent in 2024.
He attributed the surplus to strong export earnings from gold, cocoa and non-traditional exports, alongside increased remittance inflows.
The President said the combined performance of the labour market and external sector demonstrates renewed economic stability and a positive outlook for sustained growth.
Government officials have maintained that the implementation of the 24-hour economy policy will further accelerate job creation, expand industrial output and deepen economic transformation in the coming months.
