Over GH₵6 million is suspected to have been stolen at gunpoint in a daring daylight robbery at Accra’s Adabraka Market on Saturday November 2, 2024, leaving shoppers and vendors in shock as armed robbers fired shots and fled with the cash.
Witnesses report that the brazen heist unfolded when four masked men, heavily armed, approached a red Toyota Corolla near the market, targeting a customer of a local gold jeweler. With guns drawn, the robbers immediately fired multiple shots into the air, sending shoppers and vendors scrambling for cover.
Panic erupted as the robbers forced their way into the car, seizing large sacks of cash stashed inside, estimated at over GH₵6 million, Joy News sources indicated. Within minutes, they loaded the bags into their own getaway vehicle, a Toyota Highlander, and sped off, firing more shots to keep bystanders at bay.

“We heard a loud noise and realized it was gunshots,” said one eyewitness who hid nearby. “They were shouting, telling someone to open the boot. They took bags of money from the car and from nearby shops. They were here just a few minutes.”
Another witness added, “The robbers scattered some money in the air to distract people before driving off. By the time the police arrived, they were long gone.”
The dramatic robbery, captured on video by onlookers, has since circulated widely on social media, sparking concerns about the security of the area.
The Ghana Police Service has issued a statement saying it is on a manhunt for the robbers and assured the public of its resolve to arrest them and have them proesecuted.
However, analysts are warning of the dangers associated with carrying large sums of cash in public, especially in crowded areas.
They caution that doing so increases the risk of being targeted, as criminals can easily trace individuals to other locations.
