The National Road Safety Authority (NRSA) has issued a final warning to Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies (MMDAs) in the Greater Accra region to remove unauthorised billboards from road medians by Monday, June 2, 2025 or face legal action.
The directive follows a recent stakeholder meeting convened to discuss compliance with road safety regulations.
According to NRSA Director-General Abraham Amaliba, several assemblies failed to attend the meeting, demonstrating what he described as “deliberate noncompliance.”
“We invited them through the Local Government Ministry. Unfortunately, many assumed it was a national meeting and did not show up. But those within Accra were the primary targets, and their absence cannot be excused,” he said.
Amaliba revealed that the NRSA had initially provided a 21-day deadline for the removal of the unauthorised billboards and was considering an extension during the meeting. However, due to poor participation, the agency has resolved to pursue legal redress.
“Their actions show a lack of interest in complying with road safety directives. So, we will now meet them in court,” he stated.
The NRSA stressed that unauthorised billboards pose serious safety hazards for motorists and pedestrians, and their removal is necessary to ensure public safety across the region.
