The National Petroleum Authority (NPA), led by its Chief Executive, Godwin Kudzo Tameklo joined key industry players at the 2025 Africa Energy Technology Conference held in Accra, reinforcing Ghana’s commitment to shaping the continent’s energy future through innovation and strategic resource utilization.
Themed “Africa’s Gas Potential: Monetization and Its Role as a Transition Fuel,” the conference brought together stakeholders from across the African energy landscape to examine how natural gas can be positioned as a catalyst for sustainable development and a bridge in the global transition to cleaner energy sources.
Tameklo participated in a high-level panel discussion alongside David Pappoe Jnr, President of the African Energy Chamber Ghana; Appiah Keyi, Director of Commercial and New Ventures at Kosmos Energy; and Peter Stuttaford, CEO of Thompson Energy B.V. The session explored critical issues surrounding the commercialisation of Africa’s gas resources, infrastructure investments, and regional energy cooperation.

Addressing the panel, Mr. Tameklo underscored the urgent need for Africa to adopt a self-determined approach to energy development. “Africa must take charge of its energy destiny” by transforming its vast gas reserves into a foundation for industrial growth, job creation, and improved energy access across the continent”, he stated.
NPA’s participation in the conference signals Ghana’s growing role in the continental energy discourse and its support for pragmatic policies that align local resource management with Africa’s broader development objectives. By advocating for the monetization of gas as a transitional fuel, the authority is also positioning itself at the forefront of regional efforts to balance energy security with climate goals.
The 2025 Africa Energy Technology Conference serves as a critical platform for public and private sector actors to engage on collaborative pathways for unlocking the full value of Africa’s energy potential in a rapidly evolving global energy landscape.
