Minister for Communications, Sam George, has cautioned that any telecom company that fails to comply with the directive will face sanctions from the National Communications Authority (NCA).
This follows his announcement that data bundles across all telecommunications networks will increase from July 1, 2025, as part of new changes aimed at improving value for consumers.
At a press conference in Accra on Tuesday, the Minister said the adjustments will see customers receiving more data for the same price they currently pay. AirtelTigo and Telecel will implement a 10% increase in data packages, while MTN will apply a 15% increase.
“I am aware these increases are going to come at considerable cost to the telecommunications companies,” Mr George said, adding that the July 1 implementation date was selected to allow the networks time to recalibrate and reconfigure their systems to reflect the agreed-upon values.
He stressed that the NCA will monitor the implementation closely and that any failure to comply will attract regulatory sanctions. “Where failure is applied, sanction is applied,” he said.
The Minister emphasized that the policy was not a unilateral directive but the outcome of stakeholder engagement.
“I’m committed to an engagement-led style of leadership, because the recovery of eight years of mismanagement can’t be completed in four months,” he said
He reiterated that while he cannot single-handedly command price reductions, he remains committed to working with telecom companies to ensure fair and improved service delivery to Ghanaians.
