The Ghana Real Estate Developers Association (GREDA) has ushered in a new Executive Council with a strong mandate to tackle housing affordability and industry reforms.
The newly sworn-in leadership, led by Dr. James Ato Orleans-Lindsay, is expected to drive innovative policies that will make homeownership more accessible, especially for middle-income earners.
During the swearing-in ceremony at the annual CEO’s Breakfast Meeting, Minister of Works, Housing, and Water Resources, Kenneth Gilbert Adjei, challenged GREDA to rethink its approach to real estate development.
He urged the association to embrace alternative building technologies, push for reduced construction costs, and develop flexible financing models such as rent-to-own schemes and Public-Private Partnerships (PPP).
Beyond housing affordability, the minister stressed the importance of regulatory compliance, calling on GREDA to collaborate with the government to enforce the Real Estate Agency Act, 2020.
He said that would ensure integrity and efficiency in the sector to protect homebuyers and fostering sustainable growth.
Dr. Orleans-Lindsay, in his inaugural address, outlined a bold vision for GREDA’s future, promising to expand the association’s membership, strengthen advocacy efforts, and enhance research and innovation in the sector.
H said his key initiative would be the establishment of a housing development fund to support members and drive industry growth.
“It is my intention to widen the scope of GREDA to include all businesses, organizations, institutions, and professionals that play pivotal roles in the real estate industry,” he stated.
Additionally, plans were underway to build a GREDA headquarters and institutionalize an annual developer’s forum to foster collaboration and knowledge sharing.
Former GREDA President , Mr Patrick Ebo Banful emphasized the need for a shift in leadership focus, urging industry players to integrate sustainability into their business models.
“The future of real estate must prioritize environmentally friendly and cost-effective solutions to ensure long-term growth and development,” he noted.
With its new leadership in place, GREDA is set to play a more proactive role in shaping policies that will redefine Ghana’s housing landscape and provide lasting solutions to the country’s housing deficit.
