Ghana has unveiled the Ghana Learning and Development Network (GLADNET), a strategic platform designed to drive professional training and skills development nationwide. The initiative, launched by the Minister for Labour, Jobs, and Employment, Dr. Abdul-Rashid Pelpuo, aims to position the country’s workforce for greater competitiveness in the rapidly evolving labour market.
Delivering the keynote address, the minister highlighted the “urgency of the initiative” in response to technological change and shifting work patterns, stating that continuous learning is now essential for both institutional growth and national transformation. He described GLADNET as a hub for collaboration among learning and development practitioners, aimed at “standardising training practices” and improving the quality of human capital development across sectors.
The Minister emphasized that Ghana’s competitiveness will increasingly hinge on the workforce’s ability to adapt to emerging trends, particularly in digital transformation and innovation. He also stressed the importance of creating an inclusive learning ecosystem, ensuring “equitable access to skills development opportunities” across all levels of the workforce. GLADNET, he noted, complements government policy by boosting productivity, expanding employment, and promoting decent work by aligning training initiatives with labour market needs.

Pelpuo further highlighted the role of mentorship, urging the network to prioritise “structured support systems” for young professionals as a means of nurturing the next generation of learning and development experts.
GLADNET is expected to convene professionals across industries to facilitate knowledge sharing, promote continuous skills upgrading, and drive innovation, thereby strengthening Ghana’s workforce to meet the challenges of a dynamic global economy.
