The National Home Ownership Fund is helping Ghana tackle its housing shortage by making affordable homes more accessible to citizens across the country, Minister for Works and Housing, Kenneth Gilbert Adjei, has said.
The initiative, led by the Ministry of Works and Housing, focuses on providing construction financing support to reduce barriers to home ownership for low- and middle-income Ghanaians.
Speaking on the fund’s progress during the Government Accountability Series, the Minister said: “The National Home Ownership Fund continues to make significant progress in expanding access to affordable housing for Ghanaians through its construction financing support.
“The fund has completed the construction of 129 housing units at Tema Community 22, awaiting commissioning. Similarly, an additional 50 units at Shai Hills is expected to be completed by the end of the second quarter.”
The fund further supports housing projects through accessible loans and partnerships with developers, ensuring the timely delivery of homes. Tema Community 22, one of the flagship projects, has already provided 129 units, while Shai Hills will add 50 more, offering quality, affordable housing outside the capital region. Integrating public support with private-sector participation, the fund seeks to address immediate housing needs while establishing a scalable model for sustainable urban development.
