MultiChoice Zambia is celebrating 30 years of helping shape the country’s entertainment, technology, and creative industries, a milestone that reflects its contribution to cultural growth and digital innovation.
Since launching operations in Lusaka in 1995, MultiChoice has led major changes in how Zambians access and create content. The company introduced satellite broadcasting, expanded affordable viewing through GOtv, and rolled out digital platforms like DStv/GOtv Stream and Showmax to reach audiences anytime, anywhere.
“Three decades is a long time. In the Zambian film and television industry, it’s literally transformational period of time. That is how long MultiChoice has been operating in Zambia, and our sector is now almost unrecognisable from 1995, when we set up business in Lusaka,” said Leah Kooma, Managing Director of MultiChoice Zambia.
MultiChoice has also invested heavily in the country’s creative talent through initiatives like the MultiChoice Talent Factory (MTF) in Lusaka, which trains young filmmakers and supports local productions such as Mpali, Zuba, and Date My Family Zambia. These efforts have helped build careers and expand Zambia’s presence on the African entertainment map.
“We see ourselves as a trusted development partner, creating jobs, driving tech innovation, and empowering youth to create inspirational content that will shape Zambian culture for years to come,” Kooma added.
As the company celebrates this milestone, it says it will continue to focus on nurturing homegrown talent, creating more local productions, and promoting Zambia’s stories across Africa and beyond.
