MTN Group has been named Africa’s most admired brand in the 2025 Brand Africa 100 rankings and inducted into the inaugural Brand Africa Hall of Fame, underscoring the telecom giant’s growing role in digital connectivity, financial inclusion and brand leadership across the continent.
The Johannesburg-based company topped four categories in the latest survey, Most Admired African Brand Contributing to a Better Africa, Most Admired African Brand (spontaneous recall), Most Admired Brand Doing Good for Society and the Environment, and Most Admired Telecommunications Brand.
MTN’s Hall of Fame induction recognises its long-term influence on African consumers over the past decade, according to Brand Africa, which launched the award this year. The 2025 rankings are based on a survey conducted in more than 30 countries, representing over 85% of Africa’s population and economic output.
“It is an honour to be inducted into the Brand Africa Hall of Fame and to be named the most admired African brand contributing to a better Africa, the most admired African brand by spontaneous recall, as well as the brand most admired for doing good for society and the environment,” said Ralph Mupita, MTN Group President and CEO.
“That this recognition comes during Africa Month gives it added significance. It reflects the progress we continue to make as a continent and the role trusted brands must play in advancing inclusive, digitally enabled growth. We are grateful for the confidence placed in MTN by the people we serve and remain committed to delivering meaningful impact.”

MTN, which operates mobile and fintech services in 16 African countries, has centred its operations around its Ambition 2025 strategy, aimed at positioning the company as a digital platform leader in Africa. The plan has included a pivot to platform-based growth, expansion of its mobile money ecosystem, and increased investment in digital infrastructure.
Mupita also acknowledged the contribution of staff and partners to the brand’s recognition: “We thank MTNers, partners, and other stakeholders for making this recognition possible.”
Separately, MTN was once again ranked South Africa’s most valuable brand by Brand Finance, with a valuation of R50.7 billion in its 2025 Top 100 list. MTN has maintained this position every year since the survey began in 2012.
