The MTN Group has announced that it has reached its Ambition 2025 strategic target of serving 300 million customers, underscoring the company’s expanding role in driving digital and financial inclusion across Africa.
The announcement came during the company’s annual Ambassadors Appreciation Dinner, which brought together African diplomats, public sector leaders, CEOs from MTN’s markets, and members of the Group Executive Committee. The event aimed to strengthen collaboration, investment, and policy alignment to accelerate the continent’s digital transformation.
“The time is now for Africa to take charge of its own socioeconomic progress. We need to look within for solutions and to develop our own communities,” said MTN Group President and CEO Ralph Mupita, referencing the global geopolitical uncertainties that have constrained foreign aid to many African economies.
Mupita commended MTN employees and communities across the continent for their resilience and innovation in advancing connectivity, particularly in underserved areas. He praised their participation in MTN’s annual 21 Days of Y’ello Care campaign, which mobilizes employees to extend digital and financial inclusion.
“Tonight, we celebrate our Y’ello Care employee volunteers and take inspiration from their can-do attitude. We also celebrate their dedication which has led to the Group meeting a strategic milestone by serving more than 300 million customers a mere three decades since the start of our first commercial operation in South Africa,” Mupita said.
MTN Group Chief Sustainability and Corporate Affairs Officer, Nompilo Morafo, highlighted that the 2025 Y’ello Care campaign, themed “Connecting at the Roots: Connecting communities through the use of digital tools,” reflects how innovation and collaboration can drive progress across Africa’s communities.
“Y’ello Care embodies our belief that everyone deserves the benefits of a modern connected life, while reminding us that progress is ultimately built through people – our ideas, commitment and compassion,” she said. “I am grateful to MTNers, partners and community collaborators who continue to bring this belief to life.”
The evening also recognized MTN operations across Africa for outstanding achievements in advancing inclusion and innovation.

- MTN Cameroon won the WECA Region Award for community-driven digital centres that foster local innovation.

He reaffirmed MTN’s commitment to supporting Agenda 2063, Africa’s blueprint for inclusive and sustainable growth, saying the journey is “ambitious but achievable, grounded in partnership and guided by a vision of an inclusive digital future.”
