MTN Ghana has closed its yello care programmme by empowering communities through practical skills training and community-focused initiatives.
Speaking at the closing ceremony, Mrs. Adwoa Afriyie Wiafe, Chief Corporate Services and Sustainability Officer at MTN Ghana, described the three-week volunteerism programme as a powerful showcase of employee-driven impact across the country.
She said, “this year’s campaign focused on using food, digital tools, and vocational training to improve livelihoods and build resilience in underserved communities.”
“For 21 days, our employees volunteered their time and expertise to train youth in digital literacy, mobile phone repair, basic ICT, and other hands-on skills that offer immediate income-generating potential,” Mrs. Wiafe said.
In partnership with organisations such as the Opportunities Industrialisation and Technological Institute (OITI) in East Legon, MTN staff also helped produce 500 school uniforms for children in rural areas, sewing them alongside students of OITI for donation to deprived schools.
The campaign extended its reach to communities like Torgome, where poultry is the primary source of income. There, MTN worked with local artisans to modernise production techniques and introduce digital marketing strategies aimed at helping them reach larger markets beyond their immediate environment.
As part of its lasting legacy, MTN is constructing a modern facility in Torgome to support poultry making with improved infrastructure.
In the Northern Region, the initiative focused on agritech with the development of a smart farm in Yangala. Farmers were introduced to climate-smart agriculture practices, including innovative irrigation methods, fertiliser use, and sustainable land management techniques to help increase year-round productivity.
“This is part of our broader strategy of inclusion, we are not just talking about digital inclusion, we are taking deliberate steps to reach marginalised communities and equip them with skills and resources that create real opportunities,” Mrs. Wiafe explained.
Y’ello Care is an annual programme that mobilises MTN employees across all regions to volunteer their time and talents to support development goals.
Mrs. Wiafe reiterated that MTN’s commitment extends throughout the year through its Foundation’s work in education, health, and economic empowerment.
