The Minerals Income Investment Fund (MIIF) intends to inject US$2 million into Castle Minerals Limited, an Australian exploration company with deep roots in Ghana, aiming to drive gold and graphite exploration and position the country as a key player in critical minerals.
The MIIF’s investment is intended to enhance Castle Minerals’ activities in gold exploration across Ghana while advancing its graphite exploration through the Kambale Graphite Project, a venture that positions Ghana to become a future player in the graphite market, critical for electric vehicle batteries and other technologies.
This will be a direct investment in Castle Minerals, supporting the company’s gold exploration activities to the tune of US$500,000 in equity.
MIIF has also invested in Castle’s subsidiary, KGL, the primary entity behind the Kambale Graphite Project, marking a strategic push for the country to capitalize on graphite’s growing demand with a US$1.5 million stake in Kambale Graphite Limited (KGL).
Stephen Stone, Castle’s Executive Chairman, described the planned investment as “transformational” for the company’s Ghana operations. By leveraging the funding, Castle will be able to secure graphite offtake agreements and receive vital capital to conduct a pre-feasibility study on the project, which creates a “de-risking platform”.

This investment aligns with MIIF’s mission to maximize the benefits of Ghana’s mineral resources, encouraging diversification beyond gold. Graphite exploration could open new economic opportunities and advance Ghana’s role in global battery mineral supply chains, particularly for renewable energy and electric vehicle industries.
Additionally, MIIF’s investment includes the possibility of purchasing up to 50% of Kambale’s graphite production, along with representation on Castle Minerals’ and KGL’s boards. Ghana’s oversight and integration into the critical minerals supply chain will be strengthened through such oversight.
The MIIF investment should provide Castle with the necessary capital to accelerate exploration and development timelines, enhancing its asset value and potential production outlook.
