Microsoft Corp. reported stronger-than-expected quarterly results, fueled by surging demand for cloud computing and artificial intelligence, reinforcing its position as a leader in next-generation enterprise technology.
For the quarter, revenue rose 18% year-on-year to $76.4 billion, while earnings per share hit $3.65, both exceeding Wall Street expectations. Operating income climbed 23% to $34.3 billion, even as the company recorded a record capital expenditure of $24.2 billion, primarily to support ongoing investments in AI infrastructure and data centers.
Azure, Microsoft’s cloud platform and the central pillar of its enterprise growth strategy, posted a 39% year-on-year increase in constant currency, surpassing analyst projections of 34%. For the first time, Microsoft disclosed Azure’s annual revenue, revealing it now exceeds $75 billion, a milestone that highlights its increasing dominance in the cloud market.
The performance spanned Microsoft’s three major segments, cloud, productivity, and personal computing. The company’s ability to expand margins while accelerating Capex underlines its operational discipline, a balance that few large tech firms have managed to strike amid a capital-intensive AI arms race.
“For me, the key investor takeaway is that Microsoft is spending big to stay ahead in AI but is still growing profit faster than revenue, a true sign of a quality business,” said Josh Gilbert, Market Analyst at eToro.
Gilbert added, “Microsoft’s latest results clearly demonstrate its dominance in cloud and AI sectors. The accelerated Azure growth and disciplined capital spending showcase a company perfectly positioned to lead the next wave of technology innovation. We are witnessing a once-in-a-generation technology transformation, and Microsoft is leading the way with accelerating AI monetisation and unmatched cloud momentum.”
The results suggest Microsoft is not only capturing AI momentum but monetising it at scale. With Azure growth accelerating and AI tools embedded across platforms like Office 365, Teams, and GitHub Copilot, Microsoft is redefining enterprise productivity and solidifying its lead in the global tech transformation.
