The Coalition of Aggrieved Menzgold Customers is urging the government to include an allocation in the upcoming mid-year budget review to resolve debts owed by the defunct Menzgold Company Limited.
With Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson set to present the Mid-Year Budget Statement to Parliament on July 24, the group says only concrete financial allocations can bring relief to victims who have suffered years of distress.
Speaking to the media on Monday, July 21, Coalition Convenor Fred Forson made the appeal directly to the government.
“I am told he is going to Parliament next week. We want to use this medium to plead that over 200 people have died and lives have deteriorated, so we plead on him to find a place in the mid-year budget and make some provisions for Menzgold customers,” he said.
Forson acknowledged the government’s previous efforts, including the development of a roadmap to address their concerns, but insisted these measures remain incomplete without budgetary backing.
The group maintains that thousands of families continue to face hardship despite earlier assurances. “Without clear financial provisions, our suffering will persist,” Forson stressed.
The mid-year budget review will provide updates on Ghana’s economic and fiscal performance in the first half of 2025 and outline the government’s implementation progress on its broader policy and budgetary targets.
