The management of the Airports Company Limited (GACL) has shut down the McDan Aviation Private Jet Terminal due to an outstanding debt of over $3 million. This McDan Aviation Debt has caused significant operational disruptions.
The debt, which includes land leases, rentals, and terminal charges accumulated over a period, was not cleared by the company despite being given until the Christmas season to settle the amount. The McDan Aviation Debt remains unresolved.
In a letter signed by Mr Yaw Kwakwa, Managing Director of GACL noted that McDan Aviation had not adhered to the terms for using the terminal as a private jet facility, and as a result, its use was suspended until further notice.

Further, in the year 2022, McDan Aviation was instructed to hand over the keys to the terminal for a joint inventory, however, it was to no avail. These breaches, according to officials, caused the GACL to halt McDan Aviation from operating its private jet services at Terminal 1 of Kotoka International Airport (KIA). Currently, two police officers have been stationed at the entrance of the airport facility to stop the company’s operations due to the McDan Aviation Debt.
Chairman of the Ghana Airport Company Divisional Union of the Public Services Workers Union of TUC, Alhaji Abdul Issaka Bamba, said the payment of the outstanding debt is long overdue and threw the support of the Union behind the action of management, warning any other partners owing the company will suffer a similar fate.
He emphasized that the union’s support would continue as long as the company enforces payment discipline across the board, ensuring compliance with financial obligations to sustain operations, avoid further disputes, and safeguard the interests of all stakeholders.
