Margaret Ansei has been appointed as acting Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Ghana Enterprises Agency (GEA) with a strong mandate to revitalize and enhance the local micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) sector.
She comes on as a seasoned public servant and former Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Suhum in the Eastern Region.
Her appointment, effective January 27, 2025, is to strengthen the GEA’s role in supporting micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) across the country.
MSMEs form the backbone of Ghana’s economy, driving innovation, creating jobs, and contributing significantly to national development. The GEA, as the government’s primary agency for promoting and developing these enterprises, plays a critical role in empowering small businesses to thrive.
The GEA’s mandate is vital, as MSMEs account for the majority of businesses in Ghana and are essential drivers of employment. By addressing the needs of these enterprises, the agency not only boosts economic activity but also provides opportunities for local innovation and growth.
Under Ms. Ansei’s leadership, the agency is expected to continue delivering targeted programs and initiatives to enhance the capacity and resilience of MSMEs. These include financial assistance, capacity-building workshops, and other innovative interventions aimed at addressing challenges such as limited access to credit, market entry barriers, and inadequate business skills.
