The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of McDan Group, Mr. Kwaku Ampromfi has debunked claims that McDan Aviation owes Ghana Airport Company Limited (GACL) $3m for their operations at the airport amidst the ongoing McDan Aviation Debt Dispute.
He said the recent report was erroneous because issues about land acquisition and payments were on hold due to court proceedings related to the McDan Aviation Debt Dispute.
In a news statement copied to The High Street Journal, Mr Kwaku Ampromfi expressed disappointment regarding the recent decision by the GACL to deny access to the aviation terminal, particularly given that the issues leading to this action have been under active discussion in the ongoing McDan Aviation Debt Dispute.
He said the company acknowledged its financial responsibilities concerning the use and operation of the Fixed Base Operator (FBO) at the terminal for which its has made significant payments previously.
In the statement, he said, “last week we made an additional payment with the plan to continue payments from January 2025, therefore, it is pertinent to note that McDan Aviation does not owe GACL $3,000,000.00 on the terminal as erroneously reported.”
It said the company is currently involved in a legal dispute concerning a parcel of land acquired from GACL on the Spintex Road which a third party has raised litigation issues, resulting in court proceedings.
“GACL is aware of this situation, and we have communicated that payments will remain on hold until the court case is fully resolved,” it added.
The CEO said it is regrettable that GACL has chosen to take this line of action, particularly when the matters at hand are not interconnected.
“Nevertheless, we remain committed to engaging in constructive dialogue to achieve a favorable resolution to the McDan Aviation Debt Dispute,” he added.
