President John Dramani Mahama will today, September 1 launch a new Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) framework for Ghana’s ambassadors, making economic outcomes a central measure of diplomatic success. The rollout will take place at the Conference of Heads of Mission, scheduled for September 1–5, 2025, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Accra.
Under the new structure, diplomats will be tasked with driving foreign investment, strengthening trade partnerships, and positioning Ghanaian products in international markets. Their performance will be assessed not only by traditional diplomatic achievements but also by how effectively their work contributes to job creation, revenue growth, and improved living standards for Ghanaians.
The framework will reflect government’s intent to anchor diplomacy in economic priorities. By holding missions accountable for delivering trade and investment opportunities, it aims to give investors greater confidence while ensuring that embassies abroad act as gateways for businesses seeking access to Ghana to trade and invest in the country.
The conference, held under the theme “Harnessing the Dividends of Diplomacy for Ghana’s Reset,” will gather Ghana’s envoys to outline how embassies can support Ghana’s export drive and attract sustainable foreign capital. The government is also signaling to the private sector that diplomacy will now serve as a more structured and measurable tool for creating a competitive investment climate.
The shift move could also sharpen Ghana’s economic diplomacy, with ambassadors expected to deliver tangible results in expanding market access, securing partnerships, and making the country a more reliable destination for global investors.
