Karpowership Ghana has reinforced its commitment to gender inclusion in STEM by equipping young female engineering students with essential career development skills.
The initiative, part of the company’s International Women’s Day celebrations, aims to bridge the gender gap in the energy sector and support women’s long-term career growth.
Under the theme “Accelerate Action,” the event highlighted the urgency of increasing women’s participation in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) fields by providing them with practical tools to succeed in the energy industry.
However, beneficiaries of the Karpowership Ghana Scholarship participated in an intensive training session covering key career-readiness topics such as CV writing, job interview techniques, and financial literacy.
Participants also received training on leveraging social media and effective communication, helping them develop a strong professional presence.
Mrs Sandra Amarquaye, Communications Manager of Karpowership Ghana, emphasized that the company is not just funding education but actively preparing young women for employment.
She said “at Karpowership Ghana, we are equipping young women with the skills and opportunities they need to be employable. By doing so, we are helping bridge the gender gap in the energy sector and contributing to the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 5 on Gender Equality
Professor Victor Bondzie Micah, Pro Vice-Chancellor of Takoradi Technical University (TTU), lauded the initiative, stating that: “When we accelerate action for gender equality in STEM, we secure the future of innovation.”
“Karpowership Ghana’s approach mentorship, financial support, and skill-building is an excellent model for meaningful industry academic partnerships,” he said.
The training featured experienced professionals from Karpowership Ghana, providing valuable insights and encouraged participants and students to apply their skills confidently in the job market.
Raphaelina Arthur, a third-year Electrical Engineering student, said the program has been life-changing, giving her confidence and skills to compete in the job market.
She said “Karpowership Ghana is not just funding education, they are actively preparing young women to lead and succeed.”
Beyond this initiative, Karpowership Ghana has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the World Bank to expand opportunities for women in the energy sector.
