The Indian High Commissioner to Ghana, H.E. Manish Gupta, has reaffirmed India’s commitment to strengthening bilateral relations with Ghana, with a particular focus on trade, investment, and human capital development.
This came up during a courtesy call on the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa.
The discussions centered on deepening cooperation across various sectors, including trade, education, and wildlife conservation. H.E. Gupta highlighted the potential for enhanced collaboration under the International Big Cat Alliance, an initiative led by India to promote wildlife conservation. Ghana’s participation in this initiative presents new opportunities for eco-tourism investment and sustainable conservation-driven businesses.
The High Commissioner further advocated for the revival of the India-Ghana Permanent Joint Consultative Committee (PJCC) and continued engagement of the Trade Committee. The revival of the PJCC is expected to strengthen trade relations and create an enabling environment for business partnerships between the two nations. Increased engagement of the Trade Committee could also open up new market access for Ghanaian businesses in India and attract Indian investment into key Ghanaian sectors such as manufacturing, agriculture, and technology.

Education and workforce development were also key highlights of the meeting. H.E. Gupta reiterated India’s commitment to providing scholarships for Ghanaian students in STEM, finance, health sciences, and technical education.
Mr. Ablakwa meanwhile welcomed Ghana’s participation in the International Big Cat Alliance, citing its potential to boost eco-tourism and conservation efforts.
He also expressed strong support for reviving the PJCC, recognizing its role in fostering trade and investment cooperation. Additionally, he extended his appreciation for India’s scholarship programs, acknowledging their significance in equipping Ghanaians with critical skills needed for national development.
