The Chief Executive Officer of Independent Power Generators, Ghana, Dr. Elikplim Kwabla Apetorgbor, has issued an urgent appeal to the Minister of Finance, calling for the immediate disbursement of funds to Independent Power Producers (IPPs) from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) allocation.
In a press statement, Dr. Apetorgbor highlighted the lack of progress since the announcement of the IMF cash release over a month ago. Despite assurances, there has been no concrete action to distribute the funds to IPPs, a delay that has become increasingly frustrating and problematic.
“The continuous delay is unbearable and significantly hampers the finalisation of long-standing re-negotiations with the IPPs over the settlement of legacy arrears,” stated Dr. Apetorgbor. He emphasized the urgent need to resolve these financial obligations to maintain a stable and reliable power supply across the country.
Dr. Apetorgbor stressed that the timely disbursement of funds is vital to preserving the trust and cooperation of the IPPs, which play a crucial role in ensuring the country’s power stability. He urged the Finance Ministry to take immediate action to honor the debt and facilitate the conclusion of negotiations with the IPPs.
The appeal underscores the critical importance of addressing financial commitments to IPPs promptly, highlighting that the continuity and stability of Ghana’s power supply depend on this crucial step.
The press statement serves as a reminder of the broader impact of financial delays on national infrastructure and the economy, urging swift resolution to ensure uninterrupted power services for the country.
