Ghana’s Harry Stacey missed the chance to advance to the next round of the 2024 Olympic Games in swimming. Stacey clocked in at 51.12 seconds, finishing seventh in Heat 4 of the Men’s 100 Metre Freestyle event.
The heat was won by Cyprus’ Nikola Antoniou with a time of 50.35 seconds, followed by Jayhan Odlum-Smith of Saint Lucia and Yousuf Almatrooshi of the UAE, who both finished second and third with times of 50.39 seconds each.
Stacey, however, held the fourth-best time at the 50m mark with 24.11 seconds, trailing Antoniou’s 23.60 seconds, Almatrooshi’s 23.65 seconds, and Uruguay’s Leo Nolles’ 23.92 seconds.
Although he did not qualify for the next round, Stacey improved his personal best time from 57.50 seconds, setting a new national record for Ghana.
Stacey is one of two Ghanaian swimmers at the 2024 Olympics, with Joselle Mensah set to compete in the Women’s 50 Metre Freestyle on August 2.
