The Ghana Grid Company (GRIDCo) has announced the full restoration of electricity supply across the country after a major system disturbance on the evening of Thursday, April 3, 2025.
The disruption began at 8:09 PM when a fault caused the Tafo-Nkawkaw transmission line to trip, triggering a cascade effect on neighboring transmission lines. This led to the loss of generation capacity and widespread power outages, affecting several parts of Accra, Kumasi, Sunyani, Techiman, Bui, Tumu, Sawla, and other regions in northern Ghana.
In a statement, GRIDCo explained, “Our engineers worked tirelessly to restore the transmission lines and stabilize the grid. We are pleased to announce that by 10:57 PM, full power supply was successfully restored to all affected areas.”
GRIDCo’s System Control Centre (SCC) took immediate action to stabilize the grid and begin restoring power. “The team responded quickly to the incident and worked efficiently to ensure that the impact on customers was minimized,” the statement continued.
GRIDCo has apologized for the inconvenience caused by the outage. “We understand the challenges this caused to our customers, and we sincerely apologize for the disruption,” said a GRIDCo spokesperson. “We truly appreciate the patience of the public, and we remain committed to ensuring a reliable and stable electricity supply throughout the country.”
