The Bank of Ghana is launching a new media recognition scheme aimed at improving the quality of economic reporting, with the winning journalist set to receive sponsorship to attend the International Monetary Fund and World Bank meetings.
The initiative, dubbed the “Governor’s Economic and Financial Story of the Year,” was announced by Governor Johnson Pandit Asiama during the central bank’s engagement with the media in Accra. The award is intended to encourage insightful, accurate and responsible coverage of economic developments and Bank of Ghana policies throughout 2026.

According to Asiama, the scheme forms part of a broader outreach strategy to strengthen collaboration between the central bank and the media, particularly as Ghana consolidates recent macroeconomic reforms and seeks to sustain confidence in monetary and financial policy.
The competition will be open to journalists across print, broadcast and digital platforms, with an emphasis on clarity, context and depth in reporting on economic and financial issues. The winning entry will earn its author sponsorship to attend the IMF and World Bank meetings, a key global forum for policymakers, investors and economists.

The Bank of Ghana said the initiative complements ongoing plans to expand media training programmes and create dedicated forums for editors, producers and other media professionals involved in shaping economic narratives.
The move shows the central bank’s recognition of the media’s role in shaping public understanding of policy decisions, expectations and market confidence at a time of heightened sensitivity to economic information.
