Government is set to launch the SME Growth and opportunity programme at a summit on Tuesday the 16th of July 2024. This will be done through the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Trade and Industry, together with other partnering agencies. The initiative aims to provide support to Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in order to drive economic growth and development. Similar initiatives have been launched in the past to support small to medium scale enterprises.
The upcoming summit themed “Breaking Barriers to SME Growth” is designed to enhance coordination among partnering agencies to ensure a targeted delivery of financial and technical support to SMEs with high growth potential. Around 150 participants from the private sector, academia, regulatory bodies, the media, industry, and international partners are expected to be brought together by the summit.
The Finance Minister Dr. Mohammed Amin Adam in a statement emphasised that “the summit aims to enhance partnerships, mobilise diverse financial resources for SMEs growth and expansion and provide a platform for public and private sector actors to advocate inclusive policies and strategies required to foster SME growth in Ghana.”
The President of the Republic of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, is expected to be present for the official launch of the SME Growth and Opportunity Programme. Other notable speakers include Dr. Mohammed Amin Adam, Minister for Finance, Mr. K.T. Hammond, Minister for Trade and Industries, Dr. Ernest Addison, Governor of the Central Bank of Ghana and Dr. Akinwumi Adesina, President of the African Development Bank Group.
The event will also include an exhibition of SME products. The summit is expected to bring in the support of financial service providers, business and regulatory compliance institutions.
Partnering agencies of the upcoming summit are Ghana Enterprise Agency (GEA), Ghana Exim Bank, the Development Bank Ghana(DBG), and the International Finance Corporation(IFC).
