If you’ve ever scrolled through Facebook and seen an “investment opportunity” promising quick profits from Gold Fields, the company says it’s too good to be true.
“This Facebook page promoting ‘Gold Fields investment opportunities’ is a SCAM,” the company said in a disclaimer, making it clear that it has no involvement in such schemes.
The fraudulent page lures users with promises of high returns and stable growth, while attempting to collect personal information or solicit money from unsuspecting individuals. Gold Fields is urging Ghanaians to pause before clicking, verify before sharing, and report suspicious pages to Facebook to protect others.
Beyond the scam alert, the company reminded the public of its guiding principles, safety, respect, responsibility, and collaboration, a timely nudge that real value, whether in business or online, comes from trusted sources.
Founded in 1887, Gold Fields is a global gold mining company operating across four continents, including South America, Australia, and Africa. In Ghana, it runs the Tarkwa and Damang mines, which together contribute a significant share of the country’s gold production and export revenues.
Over the years, the company has earned a reputation for safe and sustainable mining practices, with a strong focus on environmental stewardship, community development, and transparency. Its investments in local communities, spanning health, education, and infrastructure, have made Gold Fields a recognized partner in Ghana’s development story.
It is this long-standing trust and proven track record that scammers seek to exploit. By misusing the Gold Fields name, fraudsters aim to capitalize on the company’s credibility to lure unsuspecting individuals.
