The Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) has reinforced its position as a key player in Africa’s evolving energy landscape, using this year’s Africa Energy Technology Conference (AETC 2025) to advocate for smarter innovation, stronger partnerships, and enhanced local content participation as the cornerstones of sustainable energy development on the continent.
Representing GNPC’s Chief Executive Officer, Kwame Ntow Amoah, Mr. Michael Aryeetey, Managing Director of GNPC Explorco, participated in the prestigious National Oil Company (NOC) and International Oil Company (IOC) Forum, a high-level gathering of national and international oil company executives focused on charting a collaborative path for Africa’s energy future.
Addressing industry leaders, policymakers, and investors, Aryeetey made a compelling case for rethinking traditional approaches in favor of forward-looking strategies powered by technology and collaboration.
“We must embrace smarter, more efficient ways of working. Innovation isn’t optional, it’s key to unlocking Ghana’s full energy potential. We must simply rethink our processes, adopt smarter technologies and reimagine our exploration strategies because the future of our industry depends on it” he said.
Aryeetey stressed that for countries like Ghana, embracing innovation is not just about remaining competitive, it is critical for long-term sustainability, energy security, and national development. He further noted that GNPC is actively positioning itself as a catalyst for transformation by welcoming strategic partnerships and creating an enabling environment for investment.
With Africa poised to play a central role in the global energy transition, both as a resource hub and a fast-growing consumer market, the conversations at AETC2025 are timely. Participants at the NOC & IOC Forum explored how local content policies, access to advanced technologies, and coordinated regional efforts can unlock the full potential of Africa’s vast energy resources.
