Ghana’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has commended ECOWAS for its crucial role in fostering regional unity, peace, and economic development over the past 50 years.
Speaking at the launch of ECOWAS’ Golden Jubilee celebrations on Tuesday, April 22, at the Accra International Conference Centre, Mr Ablakwa described the occasion as a moment to reflect on the organisation’s achievements and recommit to its founding principles.
He highlighted gains in regional integration, security, and cooperation, and paid tribute to the visionary leaders who laid ECOWAS’ foundation.
“This anniversary reminds us of the strength in unity and the potential we have when we work together for a common future,” he stated.
Mr Ablakwa urged member states to deepen collaboration and ensure inclusive growth and lasting stability across the sub-region.
The 50th anniversary is being marked across West Africa with a series of events celebrating ECOWAS’ journey and mapping out its future direction.
