The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has warned Ghanaians against fraudulent employment offers in Zambia after six Ghanaian nationals were arrested in Lusaka in connection with a suspected cybercrime operation.
The six were among 79 people arrested on August 23, 2026, during a joint operation by the Zambia Police Service, Drug Enforcement Commission and Department of Immigration. The group included 10 Zambians and 69 foreign nationals.
According to the Ministry, some of the Ghanaians had travelled to Zambia after receiving purported legitimate job offers, including online data-entry positions, but were later forced into online scam activities.
The Ministry said reports received by the Ghana High Commission in Lusaka indicated that some victims had their passports confiscated by employers, leaving them vulnerable to coercion.
“The above situation highlights the growing use of fraudulent employment opportunities by human trafficking syndicates to lure unsuspecting job seekers into illicit activities,” the Ministry said.
It has urged Ghanaians seeking employment in Zambia to thoroughly verify job offers, recruitment agencies and prospective employers before travelling.
Ghanaians already living in Zambia have also been advised to remain vigilant and maintain contact with the Ghana High Commission in Lusaka for consular assistance.
