Ghana will host the signing of the United Nations Convention on Negotiable Cargo Documents on October 26, 2026, to modernise trade documentation and improve the efficiency of international commerce.
The Ministry of Trade, Agribusiness and Industry said the convention, known as the Accra Convention, would establish a legal framework for negotiable cargo documents in “paper or electronic form” covering goods transported by road, rail, air and sea.
The Director of the Foreign Trade and Negotiations Directorate, Stella A. Ansah, announced the development on behalf of Trade Minister Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare during a media engagement organised by the Ghana Shippers’ Authority (GSA) in Accra on October 15.
GSA Chief Executive Officer Professor Ransford Edward Gyampo highlighted the importance of modernising trade documentation in response to the “growing demands of digitalisation” and “increasingly complex global supply chains.”
The October 26 ceremony is expected to bring together government representatives, international organisations and members of the global trading community, positioning Ghana at the centre of efforts to strengthen the legal framework for modern cargo documentation and facilitate global trade.
