Ghana is set to host the 6th Ordinary Session of the Assembly of Heads of State and Government of the Gulf of Guinea Commission (GGC) in Accra on Tuesday, August 6, 2024. The summit, themed “Building a Secure and Prosperous Gulf of Guinea Region for Sustainable Development,” will focus on evaluating the GGC’s progress and proposing strategies to enhance cooperation, peace, security, and sustainable development among member states.
The Gulf of Guinea Commission provides a platform for consultation and collaboration among countries in the region, concentrating on conflict prevention, management, and resolution. Key areas of focus include border demarcation and the management of natural resources within overlapping Exclusive Economic Zones (EEZs).
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration has announced that the summit will be preceded by meetings of the Council of Ministers on August 5, 2024, and the Committee of Experts on August 4, 2024, at the Accra International Conference Centre (AICC).
This high-level gathering is an opportunity for member states to reaffirm their commitment to regional cooperation and sustainable development, aiming to ensure a secure and prosperous Gulf of Guinea region for future generations.
